Research

We conduct research to first find out what is already known. Then we determine if what we know is sufficient, or if we need to do more research. We have the following research projects that we are undertaking.

  1. Finding existing laws that help prevent the spread of diseases between animals and people in our communities, including leash laws, dog license laws, rabies vaccine requirements, and others. We want to determine whether the laws are sufficient and how well they work in practice.
  2. Finding credible resources about different zoonotic diseases (i.e. those that are spread between animals and people), determining how common they are in our communities compared to other communities, and assessing to what extent our initiatives are making an impact in meeting our mission.
  3. Discovering all the possible stakeholders in our communities- from businesses to educational facilities to government to research organizations to member organizations- and determining how to best work with one another to prevent the spread of diseases between animals and people at the local level.

We are looking for interested students (and others) to participate in the above research as independent study projects. Why should students be interested? It’ll be good to put down on your resume, we will work with you to determine if you can get school credit for your efforts, you’ll increase your body of knowledge, and you’ll feel good about providing us with information we need to know and can share with others.

If you think you might be interested in participating in any of the above research projects, please contact Dr. Anna today. Be prepared to submit your resume and school transcripts.
