Values

The van Bakeren Foundation values the Veterinarian’s Oath as adopted by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and specifically the following:

  1. The One Health concept
  2. The scientific process
  3. Public health
  4. The healthy bonds people form with animals
  5. The responsible and respectful use of animals
  6. The benefits animals and people provide each other

Ethics

Board of Director Conduct

  • A Director has a duty of care, loyalty, compliance, and to manage accounts.
  • The vBF Directors have read, understood, and accepted these duties.
  • Each Director has disclosed any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Any Director must behave in a manner that does not shed a negative light on vBF.

Professional Conduct

Each professional educational and membership group has developed their own set of ethical standards.  We believe that all professionals should act in accordance with their professional code of ethics.  We will conduct business with professional groups that align most with our values.

Where there may be disagreements in ethical values, we will disclose those as the occasion arises.

These professional groups include, but are not limited to:

  1. Association of Fundraising Professionals
  2. American Veterinary Medical Association
  3. American Medical Association

Personal Conduct

  1. We do not discriminate in recruitment, employment, or policy administration on the basis of race, religion, age, sex, color, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, or status as a disabled veteran or other protected veteran under US Federal Law.
  2. We promote and practice inclusivity.  In addition, the Foundation expects all volunteers, employees, vendors, and associates to promote and practice inclusivity.
  3. The Foundation will not tolerate any form of harassment of employees, volunteers or vendors for any reason.
  4. We will not tolerate fraud.  Anyone suspected of fraud will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
  5. Any Director must behave in a manner that does not shed a negative light on vBF.
