BHAG

BHAG?!? That stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal.

When Dr. Anna started down the path of making One Health a reality at the local level, she formed this one big overriding idea. She wanted to:

Create a sustainable, equitable, low cost health care system to benefit animals, people, and the environment as it relates to veterinary medicine.

She also envisioned to do this is through research, education and health care. The setting would be a campus-like setting bringing together educators, researchers, and health care professionals under one roof. She even had an architect friend create a mockup of what that would look like.

Some changes occurred along the way to word smith the phrase. People didn’t like the term “low cost” so has been changed to “subsidized” because we are not going to devalue the veterinary medical profession. Then there was the concept of whether it would be a single system, or multiple systems. And finally, since animals and people were plural, so should environment. But overall nothing really substantive changed.
