We plan on providing information that you want to know about dogs, such as adding a section on how to know if a dog is healthy, how often a dog typically needs to go to the veterinarian for regular check ups, when a dog needs to go to a veterinarian for something more serious, and where to find a veterinarian that has expertise in treating dogs.
Below is a table of all the “common” diseases that can be found in dogs in the US that can be transmitted to people. We put “common” in quotations because while they may be common from our perspective, they may not be common where you live or you may have low exposure to them based on your activities. We want this table to be as useful to you as possible, so let us know what you’d like to know (or not to know).
The information provided was obtained from an article published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association by the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians. It’s pretty technical and a little dry, but you can access it here.
