Volunteer

There are many volunteer opportunities. What will make the best fit for you and for us depends on how much time you can devote, what your background is, what your interests are, and what we need to make the best overall team.

We do ask that all of our volunteers make a specific time commitment to get a certain amount of work done, as well as to make a financial contribution at a level that is generous yet affordable for them.

There are several other types of volunteers, and each has a different type of responsibility. These include the following:

  1. Board members
  2. Committee members
  3. Advisory members
  4. Program/Project volunteers

Board members have a big responsibility, oversee the big picture, and appreciate the details. There are four board meetings each quarter with the expectation that not only will you donate time, but also make a personal donation, and connect the Foundation to your connections to help us raise the necessary funds to pursue our mission to do great work.

Committee members see a particular piece of the big picture, get into more detail than Board members, and appreciate the big picture and their role in making the whole organization hum. There are many committees; some report directly to the board, some operate on an ad hoc level, and others work as a subcommittee to perform even finer detail work.

Advisors provide the Board with expertise on a specific topic that match up with a particular need; these members provide the most refined detail work for short periods of time. We need people with a wide are of expertise from veterinarians, physicians, and public health professionals (and their staff support!), to business people involved in law, finance management/advice, manufacturers, pharmaceutical industry, education, and other professions, to members of the general public.

Program or project volunteers help run the work to meet our mission, which include research, education and outreach, and helping with our Vets on Wheels program. Programs are intended to be long standing whereas projects are expected to be of shorter duration. So depending on what kind of time commitment you can make, you can still be a part of something very important.
